14 Upcoming South Indian Movies That You Should Be Really Excited About

Here are the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films we are most looking forward to.

1. Baahubali 2 

The Tamil/Telugu epic historical fiction which is set to release on April 14, 2017 is the conclusion to Baahubali: The Beginning which was a major success in 2015. The sequel stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia and Rana Daggubati in the lead roles.

2. 2.0 (Enthiran 2)

The Rajinikanth starrer is a reboot of the 2010 Tamil sci-fi Enthiran which also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The sequel stars Akshay Kumar playing the villain. The movie is slated for a 2017 release.

3. Amma Kanakku

The movie is a Tamil remake of the Swara Bhaskar-Ratna Pathak Shah starrer Nil Battey Sannata and will be releasing on April 22, 2016. It stars Amala Paul and Revathy as protagonists.

4. Kabali 

The severely-awaited Tamil crime drama stars Rajinikanth as an underworld don and reportedly revolves around the struggles of Indian labourers working outside the country. The movie also stars Radhika Apte and is set to release by the end of May this year.

5. U Turn

Shraddha Srinath plays the protagonist in this Kannada thriller. So far all we know is that the movie is a murder mystery with Srinath caught in the midst of it. It will be released on May 6, 2016.

    

6. Iraivi

The Tamil dark comedy stars Vijay Sethupathi, Anjali, Bobby Simha, Kamalini Mukherjee, S. J. Surya and Pooja Devaria in the lead roles. It reportedly explores the many shades of liberated women and their relationships with the men in their lives. The film will release on May 20, 2016.

7. Bibleo

Claimed to be the first ever Malayalam fantasy psychological thriller, this movie stars Shine Tom Chacko and Ark in crucial roles. The film follows the life of a Physics professor who is intrigued by the ideas of death and afterlife. During this journey, he comes face to face with the Devil himself. The movie is slated for release on June 21, 2016.

8. White

The Malyalam romance stars Mammootty and Huma Qureshi in the lead roles. The two strangers, one a middle-aged banker and the other a 25-year old young working professional, meet each other in London and fall in love. The film is set to release on April 29 this year.

9. 24    

The Tamil sci-fi thriller stars Suriya, Samantha Prabhu and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. Reports suggest that Suriya plays a triple role and the story reportedly revolves around time travel. The release date is yet to be announced.

10. Brahmotsavam

Touted to be a "family entertainer", the Mahesh Babu, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Prabhu starrer has been shot in Tamil and Telugu and is set for release on April 29. The movie is a youthful romance set against an urban backdrop.    

11. Sarrainodu

The Allu Arjun, Rakul Preet Singh and Catherine Tresa starrer Telugu action film is releasing on April 22. More details on this movie are yet to be announced.

12. Nayaki

The Trisha Krishnan-starrer is a retro Tamil-Telugu horror comedy which has the actress playing a 20-year-old. The movie will release on April 29 this year. That is all we know so far.

13. Iru Mugan

The Tamil sci-fi features Vikram, Nayanthara and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. Reportedly, Vikram and Nayanthara play an undercover agents in the movie. It is slated for release on July 8 this year.

14. Kammatipaadam

The Malayalam drama stars Dulquer Salmaan and Shaun Romy and is set to release in May this year. The story is set against the backdrop of Kochi developing into a metro city and reportedly has Salmaan playing an underworld don.
